The Forgotten deck

With the banning of jace the mind sculptor and stoneforge mystic, plus the arrival of M12, people seemed busy trying to either experiment with white weenie, valakut, tezzeret deck, splinter twin, and other new decks.

Here, we have forgotten one of the most controversial  red deck of all time. Do any of you remember what it name was?

No? Let me refresh you memory

PS: yes, it is from starcitygames.com. I took it down directly.

This deck took the game by storm and who could not be impressed? This deck can get you a turn 2 win if your draw is good. However, this deck does have issues. For one its inconsistent, if your draws are bad you are gonna lose. Second, its not as stable as Red deck wins. And there isnt much you can do late game. Third, its gonna run out of steam fast.

Now with M12, guess which card will help propel this deck to be a mean, death dealer?

You guessed it.

Goblin grenade. This card is darn, god damn, epic.
I cant express my words and love for it.

Okay, so without further due, here is my list.

Okay here's the list. And yes, no sideboard..............yet. I havent had the chance to test it for real yet but so far its pretty good on Magic Workstation. I will keep you all posted on how i will further tweak this deck and how does it do.

But first let me explain a bit about the tweaks done on this deck.

a) There isnt much tweak done from the original. Hahaha yea. but the obvious would be the removal of forked bolt with goblin grenade. Because i feel that the current meta wont see fork bolt of much use. I could be wrong though.

b) I wasnt sure about devastating summons. Should i or shouldn't i remove this. Hmmm, still it at least it lets you do something just in case you got mana flooded and so happens to draw up this card. A last desperate struggle. lolz.

Do note this is just an early alpha version of the deck. I will try and see what i can further change, though i think its as good as it is for now.

Top 5 M12 cards that are over-priced. Part 1

Here we go, yes. Its a card speculation thread. I know, i know, many of you guys will probably be uninterested in this thread, but hey, if you are free and have nothing to do, why not give it a read?

5) Grand Abolisher

Currently priced at RM20 to RM25

This card is just very very good. Its main use is to stop your opponent's ability to remove/disable your creatures during your turn. Yes, this means tumble magnet is useless to stop you. This card being printed may also be one of the reasons why stoneforge mystic was banned. The ability to equip a sword and swing undisturbed is amazing. But still there are a few things that i think makes this card a bit too restricted

a) Its mana cost.
The mana cost of this card is WW. That itself stops it from being played in numerous other decks that doesnt go mono white.

b) Burn and bloodthirst
Ouch, burn and bloodthirst is one hell of a scary combo. This card doesnt stop bloodthrist. Yeah, i know. This doesnt mean much, as they cant burn your creatures during your turn, but one thing for sure is that they CAN BURN YOU DURING YOUR TURN, And blood thirst creatures are just gonna pound you in the face while you are just standing there. Also this card is a 2/2, being in the range of almost all of the burn spells.
Mark my words, some of you will already know this but just as a reminder, bloodthirst will be a lot better than white weenie. In fact i guessing that it will probably be one of the main aggro decks.

C) It stops control from countering your creatures??
That is right, it does. Your opponent cant mana leak or cancel any of your creatures once this guy is out. But then again, we all seem to forget that control have sweepers. And not to mention the fact that they can remove your Grand abolisher during their turn. True, you can equip a swiftlet boots onto him and prevent him from being a target of removals, but then almost all controls have sweepers. That again is a real pain.

D)  It doesnt generate card advantage
This was actually pointed out to me by a guy in mtgsalvation forums. Its true. This card is unlike stoneforge mystic, it doesnt do anything to give you card advantage. Yes i know it gives you an edge versus your opponents but then you got to know that we arent talking about whether or not this card is good here. We are talking about its price.  For a card that doesnt do much card advantage, its price should be a bit lower.

THE VERDICT:

Over time, people will realize that this card is good, but it has too many restriction for it to be  played. Its good and all but then again, its not worth RM20++. But do note, this card will be a staple in white weenie decks, but whether or not it takes off well still remains to be seen.

Estimated Stable Price: Rm10- Rm15
